The Art and Science of Bringing Heart-Centered Yoga to Life

Welcome to our 300 Hour Advanced Studies and Teacher Training program. Heart of the Village Yoga was founded six years ago with the clear intention of building a heart-centered community where we live our yoga. This unique and life-enriching program is founded in the centuries-old methodologies of classical Patanjali yoga, while also expanding into more modern mindfulness and heart-centered practices intended to promote healthy and happy living.

Our programs are centered around the needs and interests of our students. The group becomes our identity. We facilitate your learning, we help you develop your yoga practice, and we support you in your quest to bring your yoga into your life. By enrolling into this program, you become part of our family community, and you become a vital part in the success of the overall program.

If you are a dedicated practitioner, if you have open heart and a willing mind, and if you know that now is the time for you to continue this “journey of a thousand miles” –  join us! Deepen your intentional practices to find peace-of-mind and ease-in-your-body. Discover your innate abilities to take action and to serve the greater good with greater clarity. Expand your knowledge – and your wisdom in utilizing that knowledge. Open your hearts and be devoted to the ideal of loving awareness and heart-centered living!

Together, integrating a curriculum from the schools of Karma, Raja, Jnana, and Bhakti Yoga, we will study and practice the yoga of action, intention, knowledge and devotion… and bring your heart-centered yoga practice to life!

  • Experiential-learning format wherein we learn by studying, practicing, and reflecting in small and large group formats.
  • Yoga Philosophy, utilizing readings, movies, and discussion, investigating various schools of thought. Bringing these philosophies to life!
  • Practice and teach Vinyasa Flow Yoga and more gentle Restorative Yoga, based on adaptations of sequences and postures first presented to the West by students of Krishnamacharya in the 20th century. We are students of the students of these teachers. We utilize the book written by Krishnamacharya’s son TKS Desikachar “The Heart of Yoga”.
  • Practice and teach therapeutic Yin Yoga, based on the sequences and postures developed in the last few decades by Western teachers, including our teacher Biff Mithoefer, author of “The Yin Yoga Kit” and “The Therapeutic Yin Yoga Kit”.
  • Bringing Bhakti Yoga to the mat and into your lives, learning mantras, chanting, kirtan (call-and-response singing), and daily heart-opening practices.
  • Intensive study of Yoga Postures (Asanas) and Sequencing; careful attention to Alignment of Postures for Every Body
  • Interactive and hands-on study of Anatomy and Physiology, utilizing modern texts and current scientific information

What some of our graduates have to say:

“The training I received at Heart of the Village Yoga surpassed all my expectations. There was a wonderful balance and ease with the style of teaching used. I would highly recommend it to anyone searching for more than just a physical Asana training course. The Teachers were some of the best I have had the pleasure to know and work with. There is a true community feeling and the studio feels like a second home.”
– Lisa Brand, E-RYT 500

“The Heart of The Village Yoga 300 hour teacher training was a wonderfullyenriching experience for my body, mind and heart. Jo and Bob lovingly cultivate a supportive community where students can deepen their knowledge and experience while making meaningful connections with others.
The training was thoughtfully organized and presented to support integration of the teachings of yoga. The program is ideal for teachers wishing to enhance nuances of teaching such as integrating yogic philosophy and sequencing and for students interested deepening a yogic life style though exploring Karma, Raja, Jnana, and Bhakti Yoga.” – Laurae Coburn, PhD, RYT 500

“The 300 hour yoga Teacher Training experience  at Heart of the Village Yoga is like adding a tube and mirrors to a small collection of favorite beads and trinkets. Each bead and trinket represents lessons learned from my 200 hour training such as anatomy, Sutra study and sequencing. The tube, the community, studio, environment, is a comfortable, solid, safe space to look over my knickknacks. Teachers, colleagues, guests, written assignments and discussions are all  mirrors that encouraged reflection, magnification and expansion. The program supports and promotes going beyond the What and When. Understanding the Why and How enables us to create a limitless kaleidoscope of action, intention, knowledge and devotion.

Jo and Bob understand how people learn best and have developed a  professional, balanced and inclusive program. I highly recommend bringing in your own baubles and witness the transformation to an ever changing, beautiful practice.” – Alexandra Langstaff, RYT 500

“It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Heart of the Village Yoga for your teacher training whether you are a 200 hour candidate, a 300 hour candidate or combined, like me. I came to know Jo Kirsch and Bob Speck as the most wonderful teaching team. They are both incredibly hard working and their combined knowledge inspired everyone at both levels to intertwine learning, mentor each other, teach with confidence and share deeply in yoga philosophy and asana.  The TT program is outstanding for anyone at any level, that is interested in delving deeper into the art and science of yoga with like minded  wonderful people.”
– Barbara Lowes, RYT 500, Reiki Master
